ACPD Establishment
The Asian Center for Population
and Community Development (ACPD) was established in 1978 as the
international training arm of the Population and Community Development
Association (PDA), Thailand’s foremost non-governmental development organization.
Its creation was in response to the need for disseminating information
and experience in community-based and community action concepts in population
management and development activities among developing countries.

In the past, ACPD has collaborated with several
private and public international donor agencies and local and international
companies in implementing international training courses.

ACPD’s Services
ACPD offers international training courses
and study tours in the areas of: design and management of integrated family
planning, health and development programs, HIV/AIDS prevention, care strategies
and empowerment of people living with HIV (PLWH), training for trainers,
environment and health, business in rural development, public-private
sector partnerships and NGO financial sustainability. ACPD also offers
personalized training courses and study tours to suit the specific needs
of individual groups of countries. About 3,000 participants from over
50 countries have attended courses at ACPD since 1978. Additionally, ACPD
provides technical assistance and consultancy services to both public
and private organizations in Thailand, as well as in other countries worldwide.

Training Methodologies
ACPD courses provide practical applications,
enabling the participants to adopt similar programs in their own countries.
This is done through the use of experiential learning techniques which
result in a two-way learning environment. The combination of both classroom-based
learning and field exposure to projects creates a forum for international
networking and knowledge sharing. Moreover, the participants will be exposed
to the experiences of other Thai NGOs and governmental organizations to
foster a more comprehensive understanding of the Thai experience in the
areas of study.
Specific dates for the four courses are
decided based upon a mutual agreement with prospective participants. The
courses are individually tailored to satisfy the educational desires of
the people seeking to take part of this program.
